Huff n Stuff, August 28,2019

Greetings Huff Family,

Last week was a beautiful start to the 2019-2020 school year!  Across all grade levels teachers and students participated in enriching learning activities throughout the week.  At the start of the week, students completed diagnostics in reading, math, and writing.  Throughout the week, students get to know each through fun ice-breakers to make each classroom feel like home.

This week, I look forward to seeing you at our annual Back to School Night (BTSN) today, Wednesday, August 28, 2019.  At 6pm I will welcome all of our wonderful families, share important information, and introduce our team of Super Star Educators.  After the Principal’s introduction, there will be two rotations that you may attend.  Rotation one starts at 6:30pm-6:55pm and rotation two starts at 7:05pm until 7:30pm.  Teachers are excited to welcome you and your family into their classroom.  They will be sharing the great things that will happen this year with your help and volunteerism.

Please remember that Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 is a minimum day.  Dismissal time is at 11:55am.  Also, Monday, September 2, 2019 is Labor day and hope you have a great three day weekend to attend to. Lastly,  I hope that you enjoy meeting your child’s classroom and get a chance to meet your child’s teacher.  Thank you for all of your support and hope to see you later this evening.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT HUFF

  • Back to School Night is an adult only event.  Please make childcare plans accordingly.
  • Box Tops:  There have been some changes in Box Tops over the summer. You can find more information here:  https://www.huffpta.org/boxtops but the gist is that they are phasing out the cardboard Box Tops in favor of digital.  You'll see still the normal pink Box Tops on products until they are completely phased out.  You should definitely still clip and turn those in for as long as you see them!  But they are now starting to use the blue Box Tops.  When you see those on products, you need to download the app and scan your receipt within 14 days.  The link above shows what each look like.  If you'd rather not download the app and scan your receipt, you can turn your receipt in to the box in the office and I can do it for you.
From September 2-13 we'll have a drawing.  If you turn in Box Tops or receipts that have Box Topseligible products, you can fill out a ticket in the office and drop it in the blue box to be eligible for your child to win a prize!
Every clip and scan matters!  Thanks Huff Hawks, have a great year!  If you have any questions or want to join me in helping to promote Box Tops, email me at
    [email protected].
  • Minimum days this week
  • Pick up and drop off is running smoothly in front of the school; however, the intersection of Sleeper and Carol is not running smoothly.  Please note that the intersection of Sleeper and Carol is not a pick up and/or drop off zone.  It has been brought to my attention by several community members that cars are parking, dropping off, and picking up students in this are.  Furthermore, families are parking in the crosswalk, which is a city parking violation.  The solution to this situation is to respectfully park on Sleeper if you must park behind the school.
  • Bicycle riding is a great mode of transportation and very healthy.  However, there are a few practices that must be stopped and will be reinforced.
  • Recess Procedures:  Our new recess procedure is for students to stop and freeze when the bell rings.  Once all students are frozen, the adults supervisors will remind students to, “Walk!” and the whistle will be blown.  At this time all students quietly walk to their lines accordingly.
  • Yard Duty Assistants:  We are hiring for two yard duty assistants also referred to as yard supervisor positions.  This is a great opportunity to connect with our students while supervising students during lunch. Please visit edjoin.org to inquire and apply.

Back to School Night Childcare

If you are looking for childcare for tomorrow's back to school night, the YMCA is offering FREE childcare from 6:00 - 7:15 for any child age 2.9 and older, as long as they are potty trained. Just go to the YMCA portable and check in. Non members will need to sign a waiver when checking in. Please note that it ends 15 minutes before BTSN ends, so please plan accordingly. -No sign up forms this year.

 Español

Saludos Familia Huff,
