Imai Gazette 02/12/25

Principal’s Message:

Dear Imai Families,

Friday is the end of the trimester and a minimum day. Report cards will be sent home via email on March 7th at 4PM.

We’re currently constructing a new restroom building near the field. This standalone facility will be maintained by the City and will provide a convenient option for public use after school hours.

Construction will continue during winter break next week. On the evening of Thursday, Feb. 20 between approximately 3pm-6pm, a wide load delivery truck with the modular restroom building will arrive at Amy Imai Elementary School. The truck will enter through the front vehicular gate at the east side of campus on Martens Ave. to access the construction area behind the MUR. On the morning of Friday Feb. 21, a crane will arrive and enter the site through the same vehicular gate on Martens Ave.

Please avoid the area during this time. No major disruptions/noise is expected.  Thank you for your patience and support as we work to improve our school/community spaces. For updates, see https://www.mvwsd.org/construction

Volunteers needed:

My name is Tessie Barrera-Scharaga and I am a member of the teaching staff at CSMA (Community School of Music and Arts). It’s been my absolute pleasure to bring our art

program to your students this year. Every year we celebrate the student’s creativity by

having an End of the Year Art Student Show. It usually happens during Open House

and it gives students a chance to showcase their artistic talents. I will be needing

parent’s help in putting this event together. The activities you will be involved in,

should you be interested in volunteering, will include labeling, matting, installing art on

walls, and de-installing after the show. Art Show Volunteer Form

Lost and Found

SEL Curriculum Pilot & Community Review

Our Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum Committee has reached a major milestone! Since September 2024, our team of educators, administrators, and community members has worked to narrow 100+ curriculum options to two high-quality finalists. Now, we are piloting these programs in classrooms to determine the best fit for our students.

  • Second Step Pilot: January 13 – February 14, 2025
  • Character Strong Pilot: February 24 – April 4, 2025

We Need Your Feedback!

As we refine our SEL curriculum, we invite teachers, staff, and families to review and provide input at one of our Community Review Sessions at the MVWSD District Office (Conference Room C, 1400 Montecito Ave., Mountain View, CA).

Community Review Sessions:

  • March 13, 2025
    • Session 1: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
    • Session 2: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
  • March 20, 2025
    • Session 3: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
    • Session 4: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM

These sessions provide a chance to learn about both curricula, share your insights, and help shape the future of SEL in our district. Can’t attend? Email Karin Jinbo to review the materials.

Middle School Information Night presentations available

If you are an incoming 6th grade family and weren’t able to attend the Middle School Information Nights in January, materials from the presentations are available. Click here for Graham and click here for Crittenden.

Better Together: February

Black History Month provides MVWSD with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the rich contributions and achievements of African Americans while fostering a deeper sense of community among our students, staff, and families. By learning about influential Black leaders, innovators, and community helpers - from local civil rights activists to Black educators, doctors, and entrepreneurs who shaped our neighborhood - students develop a broader understanding of how diverse voices and experiences have strengthened our community. Last week, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution honoring February as Black History Month. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
