Children’s Business Fair at Huff

Exciting news! This spring, our students will be able to explore their creative potential during the first ever “Children’s Business Fair at Huff.” Our young entrepreneurs will design and build a small business from the ground up, allowing them to practice many of the attributes in our Profile of a Graduate: critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, etc. The best part is... they will sell their products to real customers! Join us for an informational  meeting on Monday, 2/3/20 from 6:30-7:30PM in the MUR.

ANIMALS:

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times while on the Huff campus.  Due to a heightened potential for injury, parents are discouraged from bringing dogs to school at drop-off and pick-up times.  Dogs that are brought to school must be kept separated from other dogs. Students may not leave their lines to pet dogs.

JOIN OUR YEARBOOK TEAM!

Over the next few months we’ll be putting together the Huff yearbook. We’d love it if you can lay out a few pages - maybe your child’s class page! The software is pretty easy (we can give you a quick online training session) and you can work from home so it’s great for working parents.

We’d also love more photographs of clubs and after school activities so if you have a chance, please take some photos and send them to us.

If you’re interested in helping out, please email Kathleen Mikulis and Dorothy Lin at [email protected].

The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series presents William Stixrud, M.D. and Ned Johnson on "The Self-Driven Child:  The Science and Sense of Giving Kids More Control Over Their Lives" on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 - 7:00 - 9:00pm | MVHS Spartan Theater | 3535 Truman Ave., Mountain View

Evidence strongly suggests that age-appropriate autonomy is vital for young people’s mental health—it helps them to sculpt brains that are resilient, resourceful, and ready to take on new challenges.

When The Self-Driven Child authors Bill Stixrud and Ned Johnson discovered a common problem among their young clients: kids were feeling acutely stressed.  Some stumbled in high school, while others hit college and unraveled. Bill is a clinical neuropsychologist who helps kids gripped by anxiety or struggling to learn. Ned is a motivational coach who runs an elite tutoring service. Together they discovered that the best antidote to stress is to give kids a sense of control. In this talk, Bill and Ned advise that parents and educators adopt the role of consultant rather than manager to give kids more responsibility for their own life decisions even before they leave home.

Audience:  Parents and educators of students grades 6 - 12.
