Ability Awareness Week

Celebrating Our Differences

We are excited to have Ability Awareness Week (AAW) return to Huff right after Winter Break during the week of February 24 to 28. One of the things that kids want most is to belong, to be part of a group, to play at recess with other kids, to have someone to sit with at lunch. Children who have visible or non visible challenges are often excluded and can be seen at the edge of the playground or sitting alone. AAW is a great way to help our students understand that we all have different strengths, and that some people may need additional assistance or different ways of participating in order to function at school and  in our world.

During AAW, volunteers will read a grade level appropriate book and lead a discussion in each of the Kinder, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade classrooms. We will also need volunteers to lead simulation activities for 4th grades on Tuesday 2-15, and for 1st grade on Wednesday 2-26 right after drop off. These activities will help children appreciate the frustrations of having various disabilities. The library will also be involved in different learning activities. We are asking you as parents to support this program by signing up to help at Konstella, and by talking with your students at home about what they have learned during AAW.

We are all looking forward to a week of Ability Awareness. If you would like additional information or a chance to assist, please contact Philip Lee <[email protected]>

We want to hear from you! LCAP survey

The District is beginning its annual process of writing the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). Your input from the survey will guide the development of our District’s three-year plan and inform the update of the District’s Strategic Plan. These documents are the blueprints that guide all of the District’s work for the benefit of our students.

The survey has been revised to include questions about school and District climate. Please join us at our next principal’s coffee on February 28 from 8-9AM to learn more about LCAP.

Parents, we want to hear from you: Please click below to give input through February 28 in a survey. (Using a laptop/desktop computer or a tablet is recommended. Formatting may not be as readable on mobile devices). If you would like a paper copy, please come to the office.

Afterschool activities advertising

There are many opportunities in Mountain View for students to enrich their learning afterschool or during school breaks. With safety and consistency in mind, our school newsletter and website will advertise only District-, school- and PTA-sponsored events and activities. While we recognize that there are many providers of enrichment activities who use our campus, we may promote only those that follow specific MVWSD parameters for safety and supervision.

The District provides inplay.org as a resource to parents who are seeking additional learning opportunities for their students. To view student enrichment activities, school break and afterschool classes in our community that are not hosted by MVWSD, please see our partner, https://www.inplay.org/r/mountain-view/. MVWSD has not reviewed all programs/events found there and does not specifically endorse them. Parents should thoroughly research all activities before enrolling their children.
