Principal’s Message:

Quote of the week

“Where there is love, there is life.”

–Mahatma Gandhi

Dear Huff Families,

I am looking forward to putting the slide show together  for our next school wide assembly so don’t forget to send me your child’s picture with the February craft projects. We have a few kits left in the office if you didn’t get a chance to stop by the MUR to pick one up. Our next school  wide assembly will be on Monday, 2/22.

This Friday (2/12 at 8:30AM ) at our next Principal’s Coffee, Megan (Equity Coach) will give us an update on the renaming process for Huff. Come join us! Registration

We want to hear from you: Please click here -  http://mvw.sd/ParentLCAP - to give input through February 12 in a survey. We recognize that the wording of some of these questions might seem a little awkward because we are in a pandemic, distance-learning year. Please answer as fully as you can based on the experiences you've had this school year. If you would like a paper copy, please contact the office at 650-526-3490

This Friday is a minimum day. Students will be dismissed at 11:20AM and don’t forget we are off the week of 02/15-02/19.

Have a wonderful week! Stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Arline Siam

Open House Cancelled

Due to COVID-19, our schools will not be holding Open House events this spring, as we traditionally do in April. This year is different since our students’ work has been done at home, and gathering in groups at school is not permitted. We certainly will miss seeing all of the amazing work from our students and teachers, and look forward to a time we can gather to celebrate students’ work.

Black History Month

Even before children can talk, they are learning about the world and about race through the words and actions of others. Parents, teachers, and caregivers have the unique opportunity to frame their child's first attempts to understand and talk about race. Talking about race matters because (1) everyone has a racialized identity, (2) racialized identity significantly impacts a person's life, and (3) race is a defining social construct in America.

This Black History Month, use the Better Together infographic to begin racially-focused conversations with children acknowledging that conversations about race will look different for each family and classroom and there is no single way to talk to children about race. Have honest conversations with your students about the history of privilege and oppression as it relates to Black History and, where appropriate, connect this to local community and larger global issues.

Together, we can explore Black History. Together, we can become anti-racist.

PTA News:

PTA CELEBRATES FOUNDERS DAY: The National PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer association working exclusively on behalf of all children and youth. February 17 is PTA’s Founder’s day, so in honor of that we want to share this: A Brief History: Working Together for Children Since 1897.

Huff PTA is continually grateful for the outstanding support from our school community of parents and teachers! Even in this time of distance learning, parents give their time helping classrooms and teachers, supporting PTA operations and with other activities at school.

PLEASE LOG YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS: Our PTA Historian tallies total volunteer hours each school year to help demonstrate what an important role parents play in our public schools. Please submit any volunteer hours you give on this short, simple online form. Thank you!

CAN YOU HELP HUFF PTA FOR NEXT YEAR? It's that time again! The PTA Nominating Committee is seeking parents to serve on our executive board for next school year. We need fresh perspectives and new energy to keep us going! No matter your personality, skill set or interest, there's a job to suit most anyone.

Can you step up to serve? Contact anyone on this year's executive board, our nominating committee (below), or fill out this form to indicate your interest and someone will get back to you. Thank you!  From the PTA Nominating Committee: Derek Person, Martha Crosby and Jennifer Chou
