Principal’s Message:
Dear Imai Families,
Yesterday you received a message from Dr. Rudolph as well as one from our office in regards to an update on indoor masking. Due to an increase in Covid cases in the last couple of weeks, we are instituting mandatory indoor masking until May 13th or until further notice. Please remind your child to wear their masks while in the classroom as well as when going to the MUR to pick up their food.
This week’s state assessment has been on English Language Arts and we are so proud of how our students are doing. Since this is a state assessment, we won’t have results until the summer and they will be emailed to you. Next week we are starting with the math portion. Please continue to help us out by making sure your child is going to bed early and eating a nutritious breakfast and try to schedule your child’s doctor’s appointments for after 10AM. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Don’t forget that we are still collecting snacks. Please make sure you send them to the office so we can deliver them.

MVWSD Celebrates Its Reclassified Students!
It's time for our annual celebration of former English Learner students who have successfully reclassified as English Proficient this school year! We are extremely proud of all the students as well as all of the families, teachers, and school staff who have supported them along the way. Families of newly reclassified students should have received email invitations and formal paper invitations this week to the event to take place at Crittenden the evening of April 28. Senior Citizens/SSI recipients: Apply now for tax exemption
Homeowners aged 65 or older, and residents who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) who reside in the Mountain View Whisman School District are eligible for an exemption for their principal residence from Measure B/parcel tax.
An exemption from Measure B/the parcel tax will be made available, upon application, to any owners of a parcel used solely for owner-occupied single-family residential purposes who:
* are receiving Social Security Income for a disability regardless of age;
* are 65 years of age prior to July 1 of the tax year; or
* are receiving Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, regardless of age, and whose yearly income does not exceed 250% of the 2012 federal poverty guidelines issued by the United States Department of Health and Human Services

Health and Wellness Tip: Changing Your Thoughts
Everyone has upsetting thoughts from time to time, which can make us feel angry, sad, or frustrated. This is normal! It is often our emotions that drive these upsetting thoughts, not the facts of the situation. By catching our upsetting thoughts, checking the facts, and changing our thoughts based on those facts, we can start to have more helpful thoughts and improve our mood.

To change your upsetting thoughts:
- Catch it. When you feel upset, pause and ask yourself, “What words or phrases are running through my mind right now?”
- Check it. Consider whether the thought you are having is helpful or not.
- Change it. If you are having an unhelpful thought, consider other ways of looking at the situation. Reframe your thought to one that is more helpful.
Catching, checking, and changing your thoughts takes practice. By noticing your unhelpful thoughts and reframing them based on facts, you can improve your mood.
Día de los Niños with MV Public Library
Día de los Niños/Día de los libros (Day of the Children/Day of the Books) will be celebrated with a performance from Raices de Mexico, a Mexican folkloric dance company that will perform regional dances from Mexico, on Saturday, April 30 from 11-11:45 a.m. in Pioneer Park. The event is open to all ages, and no registration is required. Click here for more information.
PTA NEWS:
EAGLEFEST IS COMING: It’s got a new name (formerly Hawkfest), and it’s been three years since we’ve had our spring school carnival, but don’t miss this fun event scheduled for Friday, May 13, 5:00-8:00pm on the school blacktop! There’ll be games and activities, food and music, and it's free for everyone in the Imai community to attend. More details coming soon!
WALKATHON WRAP-UP AND RESULTS: It’s been a few weeks since our Imai Walkathon, but we’ve been busy notifying winners, tabulating data and finishing pledge collection. About 75% of Imai students participated in our first walkathon, which was GREAT for rebuilding our community! Since we FAR surpassed our goal of 50% student participation, Principal Siam will be sharing a silly surprise with everyone at Eaglefest on May 13.
Congratulations to Room 2 (Ms. Chesley) and Room 6 (Ms. Luongo) for winning popsicle parties for the highest rate of registration… both rooms had 100% of students registered!
Congratulations to our drawing and prize winners: Ophelia C., Luke M., Yu-Chi C, Larry L, Dylan C., Clara Y., Audrey W, Neil S. And the Effendi family.
Finally, while we didn’t focus on pledges this year, we did raise about $11,000 after expenses. Thank you to all who donated! We are still awaiting about $1,000 in pledges, so if you created a pledge page, take a look to see if all your committed donors have paid.
YEARBOOK CUSTOM PAGE DEADLINE EXTENDED: It’s your last chance! It is past the deadline, but there is still time to create your custom pages! Custom pages need to be created before the yearbook goes to print! Just follow the directions below ASAP.
1) Set up your account at www.treering.com. Our school’s passcode is 1015335719921389.
2) Next, login and select “My Photos” in the bar on the far left to upload your photos.
3) Click on “Kid Yearbooks” and “Build Custom Pages” Now you can add photos and design your pages!

If you opt to not customize your yearbook pages, your yearbook will just not have those two pages. Don’t forget to check google drive for photos your teacher and yearbook staff have uploaded that you can use in the yearbook. Your class may also have photos on Konstella you can use.
We have received a few questions about electronic signatures. TreeRing has a help page that explains it. Note you have to create your custom pages in order for any signatures you receive to be included in the yearbook.
