Science Night

Report Cards

Your child’s report card will be sent via email this Friday by the end of the day. If you requested a paper copy, those copies will also be sent on Friday. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to stop by the office or send me an email. 

Be in School; Be on Time

What’s an Excused vs. Not Excused absence?  Illness, doctor’s appointments, bereavement, and certain religious exercises are excused absences.  All other reasons are not considered excused. Good attendance will help your children do well in school and in life, so please help them make good choices.  

Do you need an independent study? This is an option for students who will be gone 5-15 days. The family must apply for this option two weeks in advance of the proposed absence. The student must be in good academic and attendance standing in order for the absence to be approved. If the absence is not approved, the days will be counted as unexcused and the student may be considered truant. Reach out to the office if you have any questions.

Writing Contest for 5th Graders

Here is the prompt for the 5th grade writing contest: Identify an area of improvement for the city of Mountain View and describe how you can play a role in making positive changes. Essays and album cover designs due on Tuesday, March 31st by 12pm to your school office or via email to [email protected]. Prizes will be awarded to top submissions!

CUSTOMIZE YOUR YEARBOOK PAGES

This year you have the ability to add two custom pages of your child’s pictures selected by you. Just follow the directions below. 

1) Set up your account at the link below. Our school’s passcode is 1015335719921389. Setting Up a TreeRing Account

2) Next, login and select “My Photos” in the bar on the far left to upload your photos.

3) Click on “Edit custom pages.” Now you can add photos and design your pages!

If you opt not to customize your yearbook pages, your yearbook will just not have those two pages.

YEARBOOK BACK COVER DESIGN CONTEST

Would your child like their artwork to grace the back cover of this year’s Huff yearbook? Then have them enter our yearbook design contest!

 

Guidelines:

• Please have artwork follow this year’s theme of dreamland (however they want to interpret it!).

• Artwork should be roughly 8 ½ x 11 portrait in size.

• On the back please include your child’s name, grade, and a parent’s email address.

Please drop off entries in the marked box in the school office. The deadline is March 30th.

Colorcycle (Marker/Dry Erase recycling)

Please continue to help support our efforts by having your kids drop off throughout the year, any used markers, sharpies, highlighters or dry erase markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. MVEF News

MVEF needs you! The Mountain View Educational Foundation is seeking new volunteers and board members to join us and support their mission to ensure that every child, at every school has access to a competitive, well rounded, inspiring education. Thanks to the work of volunteers and board members, MVEF raises over $800,000 annually to fund art, music, athletics and hands-on science across the district. The Board of Directors typically consists of 10-15 dedicated community members and district parents. Board members attend monthly board meetings, represent MVEF in their school communities, and help guide and support the vision of the organization. MVEF strives to have at least one representative from each school and people who bring a variety of professional skills, including fundraising, marketing, finance, and community engagement. Board members have the opportunity to make a difference in the experience of every child in the district, gain insight into district programming and planning, and collaborate with other parent leaders in the district.

MV Parent U

Join us for the new MV Parent U offering: Understanding Mental Health from a Youth Perspective on Wednesday, March 11th from 6:30-8pm at Crittenden Middle School, Auditorium. 

 

Representatives from the following agencies will be available beginning at 6:00 PM to provide information and resources: Allcove, Children's Health Council (CHC) Teen Wellness Committee, and Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC)

 

Please join us to hear from a panel of local high school students about their perspectives on mental health.  Students will give a short presentation and then answer questions including:

• What do you think is important for parents to know and keep in mind as they guide and support their kids who might be demonstrating some signs of risk or are already struggling with their mental health?

• What are some effective approaches and ways parents have been helpful in supporting you or your friends?

• What role does social media play related to teen mental health issues, in general? What should the role of parents in supporting and protecting their child?

• What advice would you give to parents with kids who have mental health needs?

All families are welcome to attend, although this event is targeted for parents and teens in grades 5-8.

Afterschool activities advertising

There are many opportunities in Mountain View for students to enrich their learning afterschool or during school breaks. With safety and consistency in mind, our school newsletter and website will advertise only District-, school- and PTA-sponsored events and activities. While we recognize that there are many providers of enrichment activities who use our campus, we may promote only those that follow specific MVWSD parameters for safety and supervision.

 

The District provides inplay.org as a resource to parents who are seeking additional learning opportunities for their students. To view student enrichment activities, school break and afterschool classes in our community that are not hosted by MVWSD, please see our partner, https://www.inplay.org/r/mountain-view/. Parents may search for activities near their school by entering either the school name or the school address on the map. MVWSD has not reviewed all programs/events found there and does not specifically endorse them. Parents should thoroughly research all activities before enrolling their children.

Afterschool care for 2020-21: Registration opens this spring

Registration for 2020-21 is open now! Right at School is a fee-based, nationally-recognized before- and afterschool program held every day that school is in session, from 6:30 AM until school starts and afterschool until 6 PM, plus drop-in and school break care. Right at School presents experiential two-week science enrichment curriculum units, such as “Icky Experiments,” “Page to Stage,” and “Young Detectives.” The program incorporates physical movement, outdoor time and homework completion. It offers 10% sibling discount, 25% discount for free and reduced lunch families and flexible 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-day pricing options.

YMCA Silicon Valley Before and Aftercare

 

The Y is a 30-year provider of childcare and is led by committed, professional afterschool leaders. YMCA afterschool programs provide a safe and fun learning environment for kids. The Y provides programming in 99 schools throughout the community. Kids enjoy fun physical activities, healthy snacks, homework help, enrichment clubs, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) activities, arts time and engage in strong character development.
