Principal’s Message:

Dear families,

This week we move away from flexible learning to a Distance Learning Plan. Our teachers have been collaborating with their grade levels to plan instruction remotely to best meet the needs of our students.

What will this new plan look like?

Each Monday, you will find your child’s weekly assignments on Google Classroom as well as on our website under the distance learning tab.Teachers will provide two lessons per subject per week: Math, ELA, SLA, Social Studies, and ELD. These may include live lessons (synchronous), video-recorded lessons (asynchronous), and links to lessons prepared by others. Teachers will also continue to include additional resources as well as assignments in student workbooks. Students will receive feedback from their teachers to maximize learning; however, students will not be graded on their assignments.

Teachers will have two weekly check-ins via Zoom: one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. They will communicate their schedules with you. Teachers will contact by phone any students who do not have Internet access.

In order to give teachers time with their own families as well as preserve the opportunity for families to pick up lunch on Mistral’s campus, teachers will not be available from 11:30AM to 1:00PM daily. Students will have lessons to complete on Fridays but that day will be reserved for professional development and collaboration for teachers.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide the best educational opportunities to our students during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Arline Siam

Need Photos for “Shelter in Place” Coronavirus Page

We’re adding a page to this year’s yearbook called “Shelter in Place.” The most memorable event of your child’s year will be this time at home staying safe from the Coronavirus. Are your kids learning new skills online? Having Zoom calls with their friends or their class? Cooking, playing outside, or going on hikes? Whatever they’re doing, we would love to have your photos. Please upload them here:

If you don’t want your child to appear in the yearbook, or if you have any other questions please email Dorothy and Kathleen at [email protected]

District News:

Free, low cost internet for students

We think that it’s important that each of our students has one Internet-ready device (laptop, iPad, etc)  in their house for distance learning schoolwork. There are several ways you can access free/or low cost internet to connect students' Chromebooks. Please see the attached flyer or click on www.mvwsd.org/technology.

Middle School electives selection coming soon

It is the time of year when our incoming middle school students choose their electives for next year. As we enter the third year of the new inclusive middle school schedule, our middle schools are currently working to provide quality offerings that we hope will pique students’ interests and a great complement to our core academics.

Parents will receive an email on April 24 with course descriptions and selection directions. All 5th-7th graders will preference their course electives online through Powerschool on April 29-May 8, 2020.

2020 Census Paper Questionnaires are on their way to Californians!

If you’re among the 70+ million households who have already responded to the 2020 Census, thank you! If you haven’t completed it yet, paper questionnaires are in the mail headed your way. Households receiving the paper questionnaire can still respond online or by phone, or they can return it by mail in the enclosed envelope. When you respond online, use the Census ID from the letter or provide your address. To respond now, go to https://go.usa.gov/xdKjk.

Please encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to complete it too. It’s something everyone can do while practicing social distancing at home to make a difference today, tomorrow and the next 10 years.
