Imai Gazette 11/09/22

Principal’s Message:

Dear Imai Families,

Next week we are celebrating United Against Hate week and on Wednesday we will have our international potluck from 5-7PM. Please join us to share a meal together and celebrate our diversity. This is an opportunity to meet new people, try some new food and play some bingo together. RSVP to this event by using the link.

Beginning next week, our school will begin working with Sown to Grow as a partner to help support the social, emotional, and academic growth of our students.

Sown to Grow is a student goal-setting and reflection platform that empowers learners while building critical emotional and academic skills. Each week, students check-in on how they are feeling and reflect on the strategies that are working best for them (or new ones to try). Check-ins start with a focus on emotional wellbeing, and expand to social-emotional skills and academic goal-setting over time. Teachers, principals, and counselors see real-time reporting on students’ emotions and can proactively reach out to support student needs.

Sown to Grow serves thousands of students and teachers nationally, and is funded by the US Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, and Digital Promise (a national nonprofit focused on impact and innovation in schools).

We are part of an amazing community!

We feel so proud to be part of this kind and generous community. We never could have anticipated the response from our families when we asked for winter clothes. We received more than 100 bags of clothes! We want to say THANK YOU for your donations. Your donations made it possible for us to help many deserving families, not only families from our school but also families from other schools in MVWSD and our community. Seeing our families come together to assist others is extremely fulfilling.

PTA NEWS

CORPORATE GIVING (especially for Googlers!) for Castro PTA: From November 7 thru 18, Google Employees are provided $400 for charity contributions to the nonprofit of their choice. Imai PTA is partnering with the Castro Elementary PTA to encourage Google employees to direct their charitable donation to this local PTA in significant need.

Castro Elementary has a very small PTA with families that are working hard to create more opportunities for their students. Unfortunately its fundraising efforts have been severely impacted by the pandemic in recent years and they are struggling to recover and create more opportunities at their school.

We hope you'll consider supporting them through corporate giving and other means. Castro PTA will show up on Benevity beginning next Monday, Nov. 14.

VOLUNTEER HOUR GRANTS: Many large employers provide volunteer hour grants to nonprofit organizations where their employees volunteer their time. For example, Microsoft employees can be granted $25/hour for each volunteer hour worked. If you've volunteered at school with our book fair, as a room parent, or as a Project Cornerstone reader, don't forget to look into these volunteer hour grants for Imai PTA!

IMAI PTA GENERAL MEETING next Wednesday evening: After the potluck next Wednesday (Nov 16), stick around and join us in person (in the MUR) for our next general meeting of Imai PTA at 7:00pm. We'll have activities to occupy the kids in the back! Our agenda will include updates from Principal Siam and other PTA officers PLUS discussion of community-building events thru the 2nd trimester, the kickoff of our Spring Walkathon planning committee, and a summary of Auction and Book Fair results.
